Robert Liberace is a contemporary classicist, equally accomplished in drawing, painting, and sculpture.

His work is inspired by the centuries of knowledge.

Description for Alla Prima

Participants in Liberace’s Workshop: “The Classic Portrait/Figure - A Modern Approach,” will be executing the modern method of ‘ala prima’ and a rich array of contemporary colors. Students will follow a step-by-step method which will allow them to compose a figure painting with the look and finish of classic Renaissance paintings. Though ‘ala prima’ and (the direct manner of finishing a painting while it is wet) is often considered an impressionistic approach, it is also ideal for the careful and thorough modeling which is a hallmark of classical painting. This approach will allow students to thoroughly and efficiently complete a painting without the laborious and time consuming classic approach of glazed layers. Methods of drawing, paint manipulation and color arrangement will be included and a general analysis of the anatomy will be stressed.

PORTRAIT PAINTING IN OIL WITH
DOUGLAS FLYNT

March 21 - 25, March 28 - April 1, 2011 (COST: $975- includes model fees)

A 10 DAY INTENSIVE WORKSHOP IN THE ARTIST'S STUDIO
LOCATED IN FORT MYERS, FL

Spend 10 days studying the process of portrait painting in oil with internationally distinguished artist Douglas Flynt in his private studio, located less than 10 minutes drive from beautiful Sanibel Island.

This intimate workshop setting with its very limited number of participants will allow plenty of one on one time with the artist.  Regular demonstrations and lectures will be accompanied by individual feedback and advice as participants work toward the completion of their own individual paintings.

Participants will be offered an in-depth look at a portrait painting process which favors the classical and academic sensibilities.  Explore the stages of preparatory drawing, an ébauche or under-painting, and turning form to create a finish.  All the while, participants will learn about drawing strategies, understanding structure, color theory and paint mixing, composition, basic perspective, palette layout, and how light on form affects our perceptions of color, explained through metaphor, theory and application.

For workshop questions or workshop registration please e-mail:
